FAQ
03 / Home Reading Program

All students are encouraged to read at home on a daily basis, for both practice and enjoyment. There are leveled readers in the class that students are allowed to take home. They choose their own books, and independently exchange them as part of our morning routine. There is no set schedule in terms of how long they can keep a book – life is busy, and you may not get to reading every night. There is also benefit from rereading books. If you think it’s been too long since your child has exchanged their book please feel free to put a quick note in their agenda, that way I can ensure that they grab a new one.
We work on a rotating 5 day schedule, so occasionally the day of the week our gym class falls on changes. Currently we are scheduled for gym on Day 3. There also may be other times during the week that we book an extra gym period, so please ensure that you child has appropriate indoor running shoes at all times.

What day is gym class?
Our scheduled library time is on Day 3, but there are some times during the week when the library is open for book exchange. Library books can be returned to school at any time, as we have a bucket in the classroom that we fill as the week progresses. If your child forgets to return their library book on library day, don't stress! They can just bring it the next day.

Agendas
Each student is supplied with an agenda at the start of the school year. Part of our morning routine is filling out a message to put in our agendas, there will be a note in it almost every day. Part of having Grade 1 students using agendas is to help build their organization and independence. Try having your child remember to show you their agenda every day after school as part of your daily routine.
